Public transport in North Cyprus is limited, so the easiest way to enjoy your holiday is with your own car. Distances are short, roads are generally good and the scenery is beautiful. Here is what you need to know.
Driving basics
- Traffic drives on the left, as in the UK.
- Rental cars are marked with red number plates, so other drivers know you are a visitor.
- Speed limits are lower than in many European countries – take it easy and enjoy the views.
- Seat belts are compulsory and using a phone while driving is not allowed.
What you need to rent a car
You will need a valid driving licence and a valid ID or passport. Visitors can use a valid driving licence from their home country for up to 90 days after arrival. Drivers must be at least 21 years old.
